If I could pick a name for a town, it'd be Golden. That just sounds like a nice place to live, doesn't it?
There is a Chrome, Pennsylvania, an Iron, Michigan and a Zinc, Arkansas, as well as a Lead, South Dakota and a Mercury, Nevada.
But according to what I found on the internet, there is only one Golden, which is where Dave and I visited today.
Of course there are Goldendale's and Goldenville's, but there seems to be just one "Golden". And what a cute little town it is!
On this first day of the new year, we wandered the streets, ate split pea soup at a great little deli, and took a drive up the canyon from this "old west" feeling town.
With warnings along the road to seek higher ground in case of a flash flood (don't think that's happening today!), this narrow canyon was just gorgeous to drive in this afternoon. Don't know what I was thinking when I left home without my camera, but was glad to have my phone with me to at least capture it a little bit!
We noticed a few cars parked off to the side of the road at one point, so thought we should pull off and see what was going on. Can you believe what we saw??!!
That guy is climbing an ice water fall! I had to look it up to see if this is something more people do, and sure enough, it is! I can see why it's considered an extreme sport...yikes!
I'm happy to have an adventure or two, but not that kind!
While it was sunny and blue sky in Golden, we encountered sleet and snow on the way back to Denver. Because after all, this is Colorado and if you don't like the weather, just wait a few minutes or drive a few miles!
Here's hoping that the new year will bring many more "golden" moments into all our lives.
