Waking up here in Wyoming reminds me of waking up at home in Czech.
The mountains, snow, fir trees, wind, and cold. I feel like I'm at home.
But there is one thing that is very different.
BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The sound of avalanche control being done in the mountains.
For the past few days, we've woken to the sound of explosives being detonated each morning. These are to disrupt weak snow layers and prevent major avalanches from happening before skiers and snowboarders hit the slopes nearby.
In this otherwise peaceful terrain, it's a strange sound to be woken by! But in an odd way, it's a comforting sound as it reverberates through the valley. It hopefully means another peaceful day on the slopes for all who are up there.
What sounds do you awaken to?
City sounds! Or my nice alarm clock app (Sleep Cycle!). ;)
